Logistics & Warehouse – Front Line Manager – FTC
Shift Pattern: 4 days on / 4 off / 4 nights on / 4 off, 6am–6pm / 6pm–6am
Fresh People are recruiting for an experienced Logistics & Warehouse Front Line Manager to join a large-scale food manufacturing and distribution operation in Stevenage.
This is initially a Fixed Term Contract, with the potential for a longer-term permanent opportunity. We are therefore looking for an established FLM who can make an immediate impact but who would also be interested in developing their career with the business longer term.
The successful candidate will join an established shift management structure consisting of four Shift FLMs with two additional supporting team members.The Role
Working across both transport and despatch operations, you will be responsible for leading the shift team and ensuring the safe, accurate and efficient movement and distribution of goods.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Lead and manage Despatch Operatives and Coordinators across the shift.
- Take responsibility for day-to-day transport and despatch activities.
- Set clear goals, targets and performance expectations, ensuring operational KPIs are achieved.
- Manage labour utilisation effectively, using Warehouse Management Systems and workforce flexibility.
- Ensure compliance with Health & Safety, environmental, legal and company standards.
- Lead with a strong “Safety First” approach and ensure hazards, accidents and near misses are appropriately reported.
- Recruit, train, coach and develop team members to achieve high levels of operational performance.
- Drive continuous improvement and productivity initiatives.
- Identify and resolve service or operational issues, escalating where appropriate.
- Prepare and communicate key operational information at shift meetings and reviews.
- Work closely with other site functions to ensure effective cross-functional working and overall site performance.
This role profile places particular emphasis on leadership within a warehousing/despatch operation, KPI delivery, labour utilisation, continuous improvement, safety and cross-functional working.About You
We are looking for an established Logistics or Warehouse Front Line Manager with:
- Previous FLM, Shift Manager or equivalent operational leadership experience.
- Experience across transport and despatch operations is strongly preferred.
- Previous experience within food manufacturing, FMCG, logistics or another fast-paced, high-volume environment.
- Experience leading operational teams and managing performance against KPIs.
- Strong Health & Safety awareness and the ability to lead by example.
- Good working knowledge of Warehouse Management Systems and Microsoft Office.
- Strong communication, organisation and people-management skills.
- A hands-on leadership style with the ability to manage a busy operation across both day and night shifts.
Previous leadership experience within warehousing and ideally a comparable blue-chip/FMCG environment, together with WMS knowledge and strong leadership and communication skills, are key requirements of the position.The Opportunity
