The Role – Quality Manager

Fresh people are recruiting for a Quality Manager for a Fresh Produce Operation based near Maidstone in Kent who has experience working with the UK retailers at length .In this role you will be responsible for managing the QC team so must have experience of managing a large team whilst having the capability of managing the large retailer accounts

The Person

  • Auditing experience / Knowledge in BRC / GlobalGAP / SMETA / SEDEX
  • Use of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, email
  • Language skills / written skills
  • Good communication, engagement and motivational skills to drive continuous improvement in food safety and engage and support Commercial, Internal, Compliance, packhouse, quality management colleagues
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of the processes ideally with retail and manufacturing experience
  • Experience of leading change and creating a high-performance culture
  • Deep understanding of required environmental legislation and controls to ensure our sites achieve KPI’s
  • Strong influencing skills and the ability to create a common purpose across teams
  • Strong leadership skills, including strong communication, engagement and motivational skills to drive continuous improvement in food safety and customer feedback
  • Attention to detail, and work to deadlines
  • Being able to work with some customer portals internet-based systems.
  • Data Management Platforms / Certification platforms
  • Driving Licence as multiple sites

The Role

  • Positive / Pro-Active Quality Control Management Support, with remote and on-site management support.
  • Support with new stock and QC Intake system and implementation which effects both internal teams and suppliers / plus knowledge of setting up the appropriate test cards / system to allow for ease of use.
  • Service Provision Point of Contact for Service customers / implementation of requirements Due Diligence work on certain areas – to assist the Technical team and Procurement / Commercial teams. ( insight into fruit quality and management is key to the role )
  • Root Cause Analysis, Corrective actions to be identified to rectify quality concerns / rejections.
  • Assistance on crop allocations / support – allow for active management of crop
  • Longer Term Training Support / Mentoring QC Team to develop.
  • Look at shelf life extension / improvement. Involved in project storage / product management including process and enables business innovation delivery
  • The delivery of business policies and KPIs, specification & concept to launch & reviews. Use of the Portal to aid customer / site / product management.
  • Support the delivery of our Sustainability, Ethical, Environmental and Business targets – see below
  • Assesses and enables new business opportunities and business ventures for risk and brand impact and develop risk mitigation strategy
  • Ensure that all products comply with the relevant standards and legislation
  • Monitor and react to market lead activity, industry and retail sector / technical issues Communication of policies, specifications and other documentation to colleagues / third party growers / stakeholders, including BRC / Quality Management System.
  • Ad hoc projects and duties as required
  • Cover for other team members as needed, hands on approach to business needs
  • Quality visits as needed / improvement planning for countries as needed including UK sites.
  • Site visits and active management as needed for certain sites / growers.
