The Role – Packaging Developer

Fresh People are currently recruiting for a Packaging Developer for our client a Fresh Produce Service provider based around the Sittingbourne location. In this role you will be required to support the development of compliant, efficient, and sustainable packaging. Ensuring Packaging compliance is maintained for effective delivery of legislative requirements including Plastic Packaging Tax, Packaging Recycling Notes and Extended Producer responsibilities delivery.

The role is key to ensuring out of scope packaging materials do not enter the companies waste stream. Ensuring the highest quality materials for commercial recycling, helping to deliver a high value circular economy, whilst removing costly non-recyclable packaging materials

The Candidate

Suitable candidates must have worked previously within a packaging role within the fresh produce industry. Must have good analytical skills to support root cause of packaging non-conformances and have a good understanding of packaging materials and formats. Good report writing skills and competency in MS office is essential.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Support the Packaging Development Manager to deliver the group packaging strategy.
  • Manage the packaging material specification database, liasing with internal teams and suppliers.
  • Accurate logging of Packaging Supplier BRC, ISO Certification, migration reports, ensuring all other site data is up to date and maintained including Soil Association and any other accreditations required for the group.
  • Ensuring packaging artworks are received from Packaging Suppliers and stored on central servers for referencing.
  • Reviewing of packaging arrivals from the Global Supply base. Evaluate materials, accurately record packaging data and review against packaging data held within the group.
  • Ensuring packaging materials conform to the company’s policy and codes of practice.
  • Primary point of contact for Packaging Non-conformances. Accurately logging of non-conformances and investigate root cause analysis.
  • Support the Packaging Development Manager to generate a non-conformance procedure, cascading and ensure adherence across all sites for swift resolution and improvements in packaging performance.
  • Support the packaging strategy and development by attending packaging trials as required. Accurate generation, submission and booking of Packaging Trials. Liaising with suppliers and operations teams to ensure trials are actioned and trial report is accurately recorded whilst and trials tracker maintained.

Measure of Performance/Key Deliverables:

  • Support the delivery of long-term packaging strategy document that meets the company and their respective customers.
  • Accurate packaging data recording and storage for Audits and Reporting.
  • Packaging data issued to internal customers at least quarterly.
  • Ensuring packaging compliance from an ethical and statutory perspective.
  • Own packaging non-conformance reporting to deliver improvements in packaging performance.
  • Support Packaging Trials, ensuring actioned on time and recorded accurately.
